Choosing the name of a product is often one of the most difficult decisions that startup owners have to make. In more recent times, we’ve become more accustomed to choosing strange, non-obvious names for companies - often choosing to remove vowels (flickr, zooomr, etc) whereas others have chosen to split up seemingly arbitrary terms (del.icio.us, ma.gnolia.com, bub.blicio.us).
Fortunately, there are still many that are concerned with the meaning implied by their product name, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Ultimately, it depends on the intended audience and, often, the inside joke of the Web 2.0 world is not applicable to the remainder.
Blue Whale co-founder, Ranvir Gujral, is going through this difficult process now as well and he’s looking for some assistance. If you have a moment, please help us choose the name for this soon-to-be-released application.
